Specialization as an Athlete :
Consistency, dedication, just running to run
Personal Record times and in which event(s):
5k 19:29, 10k 40:59, 1/2 1:31, full 3:17
Specialization as a coach:
I love coaching athletes who are just getting started and need both a plan to follow and the support of a coach. I have two young boys whom I have been raising alone, so I love coaching moms as we need to be creative with our time to squeeze in a run. I ran through both my pregnancies and I am completing my certification in ProNatal fitness to help train women through pregnancy and postpartum. Additionally, I have my USA Track and Field level 2 certification specializing in youth development, so I also enjoy working with young runners
(middle school through college). When I first started running in high school, I had a private coach which really made all the difference in reaching my goals.
College:
I was the founder of my high school's track team in 2004! I went to Dickinson College where I competed in all four seasons of XC, Indoor/Outdoor Track, running distance of course. I graduated with a degree in English and a minor in Economics (for fun).
How/why did you start running?
My running story is quite well known as I have been sharing about it on social media since 2020. I am also working on a book about it. I began to run everyday in 2002 because I needed a purpose in life and I fell in love with running. Since then, I have yet to miss a single day. It has been over 23 years of running everyday where each day I love running more and more! Perhaps a bit obsessive to some, but I find that running has always given me a purpose to go outside and find gratitude in this life. In my first decade of running I had many goals I was chasing, but now I just run to enjoy the run!
Tell us something interesting about yourself:
I have been practicing and teaching Yoga since 2009 and have found benefit from the mental components of the practice that can help in running. I also teach Pilates in a modern-fitness kind of way. As much as I love running and forms of movement, I also love academia. I am completing my Masters of Arts in Writing and continuing my education towards an MFA with a focus on creative nonfiction. Currently, I am working on a memoir about my life during my former husband's battle of stage four brain cancer. I enjoy taking my boys (ages 9 and 11) to the track where I have them bust out some speed workouts.
